I have to admit I'm a little nervous about the changes to Holy Pally itemization, since I took a heavy crit build and stat stacking. But hopefully it will even out.
There has to be a better way to seperate PvP from PvE/raiding and what not.I don't PvP. At all. I don't feel the need to. I've toyed with it, I don't care for it. So when (and this goes for all classes) nerfs come to try to stabilize the PvP environment, it sucks for those who don't PvP.Flat out, start making realms where PvP is not possible in any way shape or form. BGs and WG can be used as quests, and played against NPCs from the other faction. It'll super charge most classes DPS specs by removing nerfs to try to balance PvP.
My Wotlk main is a Ret Pally with a dual Holy spec, so I was anticipating this post too. Two things really bugged me in this post.1) Divine Shield is a very powerful spell and it needs a counter- so why did you wait years to implement one?2) Adding new librams to 3.2 vendors, instead of fixing the terrible ones that currently exist for Ret.
They have a PVP and a non PVP server for the PTR....no real reason they can't make different environments balanced around each game type for different servers, particularly when moving between servers is so easy. The first step would be to simply have an entirely different talent interface/spec for pvp. There are addons that automatically equip certain sets of weapons when certain situations occur...like entering combat or entering a BG.On pvp servers, they'd simply default to a pvp setting and switch out when entering instances. If people don't want to pvp, they play with their pve specs that are balanced against the encounters and eachother, not pvp.If people want to pvp, they use their pvp specs and they are balanced around other pvp specs, not pve ones.
Mmm I love Q+A, it actually seems they kinda pay attention to all the nonessential QQ out there, thanks for posting WoWhead!
I can't express too well in words how glad I am to see the coming changes to Retributions burst damage. I don't complain much about classes but I do feel paladins are genuinely over-powered (at least in this respect). Like Voodaman said, there's a flash of light and you're clicking "Release."However, I hope the correction of the PvP-Overpowered-ness doesn't kill your PvE utility. Paladin is the most-loved class by Blizzard though, so I doubt they'll beat you guys down too much.
Even I want Paladins to get nerfed a bit, and I play one. Let me elaborate:I started playing a pally not long ago as a new player. As I leveled up, I realized more and more how OPd we are in many situations. Especially burst damage and survivability. I leveled more and then found that since Paladins were OPd, they became a fotm class, resulting in mass numbers of them. Normally I don't mind, but it kind of ruins the flavor of things when everyone in LFG/M is a Paladin or a DK that plays the class because they want to "win". Beyond that, however, it's annoying because most people don't bother to learn how to play a FOTM class. Thus, you have masses of Paladins that are utterly hopeless. Finally, this becomes an even bigger problem since said hopeless Paladins can still succeed in many circumstances despite their lack of..something (let's face it, this game isn't hard?)
Beware, (some) QQ ahead: Holy Paladins are having the most issues in PvP and PvE (too OP in one, not OP enough in the other to get simple) AND getting the biggest changes... so who gets the spotlight of the Q&A? Ret, of course.Honestly, Ret used to suck. A lot. Beyond a lot, actually. Ask all the Ret Paladins who buff-botted or went Holy for Sunwell and you might begin to understand. But in Wrath? Ret is not in the best place by any means, but it's in a significantly better place. This has caused a lot of PvP balance issues, but at least Ret is nicely viable in one aspect of the game, now it's just about making it more enjoyable. Holy did alright in BC, but it wasn't a Resto Shaman by any means (which is now a semi-laughable statement in and of itself) and then.... didn't change for Wrath hardly. Yes, we got Beacon. Yes, Beacon is very nice in very limited situations. Every other healing class got even better at whatever their "weak" suit was, be it single target healing or AoE healing. Paladins got nothing for their very, very, weak suit and everyone else got to start catching up with them in their strong suit. The Holy 3.2 changes, while super nice and still somewhat exciting, feel like too much of a band-aide, and not enough of an actual fix. And this QandA did nothing to alleviate that feeling, or even address it. The major Beacon change isn't even mentioned, and the FoL HoT is mentioned in passing in a comment that has more to do with the Mp5 buff (which is really a nerf, at least that was owned up to). I'm disappointed in you, GC. Now I want two ponies.
I'm so glad I play a Protection paladin greatly in need of reassurance or tuning for hard mode encounters. I hope all the Rets are enjoying the attention.
