In the current Battle for Azeroth build (26812) there were a number of undocumented changes for Demonology, specifically surrounding our demons.
All of our demons, minus
Wild Imps and
Demonic Tyrant(more on that in a bit) were on the receiving end of an Attack Power coefficient recalculation. It wasn't a minor recalculation either but instead it was a 35% reduction in their Attack Power.
What demons are included in this currently?
Wild Imps and
Demonic Tyrant were missed this build, but a nerf to them might be coming out as well. This nerf effectively makes
Summon Felguard a WORSE pet to use than any of the other non Demonology specific pets by a fair margin and that includes the 10% damage bonus
Summon Felguard gets just for being a Felguard. This, I would say, is definitely not where they want
Summon Felguard to be but as of this current build is where it sits.
There are some other demons that were unaffected other than the base pets (excluding
Summon Felguard) which are all linked to our random demon summon from Inner Demons or Nether Portal.
What does this mean for Demonology's future?
This was a clear indication that Blizzard is at least trying to tune Demonology and this was an obvious attempt to nerf Demonology as a whole by 35%. Unfortunately some of the specific nerfs were not thought through fully and brings us to this point where there is a possibility of some very...weird gameplay. There's also the issue of pet travel speed and the fact that they basically take a leisurely stroll down to the target but that's something entirely different that needs to get changed.
While yes there was a need for Demonology's overall damage to come down to be more in line with other specs in the game the way they currently have it set up is unfavourable to say the least. Let's hope there is much more tuning to come and we see the 35% nerf to overall damage closer to 20-25%.
