This axe really is good, well worth the effort!
Also very nice and odd look.
This is a very nice axe, and you will probably see a lot of people running around with this one, similar to blackhand doomsaw was back in the day. Also worth mentioning, the sphere in the tip of the axe starts small, and grows bigger until it reaches full glow/size, a very cool effect.
A great looking weapon in my opinion. But pretty hard to get. Second last boss hits very hard, hit me for like 1.5k. And I'm a Tier2+ geared warrior... but well worth it :>
The axe is really nice if you're getting it at level 65. If you don't run instances much, it can last you all the way until level 70 (although there are some better pre-70 2 handers in instances). The only downside to it is that it is 3.4 speed instead of 3.6 (or slower), which means a little bit less dps than a weapon of the same caliber with a slower speed. But for a quick round of arena quests (where you get about 100k xp and 75g) it is an awesome weapon.
I used this axe for about 1 day. Then I got 66 and picked this up from the vendor in Halaa:
Don't get me wrong, it was fun running around with 31% crit chance! In fact, I 2-shotted a horde rogue and then his hunter buddy that jumped me in Nagrand with this thing, but as a human warrior with +5 innate sword skill, I've always enjoyed sword specialization. Plus there tends to be much better 1H swords for tanking than any other weapon type, so the sword spec also lends itself to more dps when I have to tank..
Definately a unique looking axe.. too bad I saw about 15 other people using it yesterday.
I am an enhancement shaman and i can not wait to get this. this looks to be a great shaman or even hunter weapon, since it is a Quest reward we don't have to fight anyone for it.
It's a very nice looking axe, but it's disappointing that it's not any better than a vendor weapon less than half the zone away. The Halaani Claymore
is every bit as good as it for an MS warrior, a little better even thanks to the Claymore's crit rating and slower speed and it's a pitiful 9G from the Halaa weapon's vendor.
The Ring of Blood, if done with just a five man group and no active spectators, is a tough questline, the reward should outlass a vendor weapon. Regardless I expect that many shammies and ret paladins will probably love it.
Beautiful axe, just won it from quest. Thx to the horde that helped us do it :)
P.P. 4th boss hit me with his mortal strike for 4k..
Let's compare the 2 weapons.
Binds when picked up
231 - 347 Damage Speed 3.60
(80.3 damage per second)
Durability 85 / 85
Requires Level 66
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 27.
So basically if you get the Claymore you will be giving up 3 stamina, 6 AP, 30 Agi and 1.2 DPS for:
11 more base dmg, 27 crit rating, .2 slower weapon speed and you'd be going from axe spec to sword spec. The agi vs crit pretty much evens itself out, 6 AP isn't very much when you're sporting 1500+ with battleshout and enchants. 3 stamina isn't much when you're sporting over 7k HP.
11 more base dmg accompanied with .2 slower weapon and sword spec pretty much means this is an awesome weapon for PvP/MS builds.
Sword spec is superior to axe spec or anything else if you think about the math, the reason being is that sword specs can crit. Think about it which would you rather have 5% more crit, or a 5% chance to get in another swing that has a chance to also crit?
say one guy has a base 30% chance to crit, and specs axe, he'll now have a total of 35% chance to crit. Now take the same geared guy and give him sword spec, so a 30% chance to crit and a 5% chance to proc an extra hit. So in 100 swings, guy #1 will do the following (let's assume each hit does exacly 10 dmg and both characters have impale so that each crit does 170% dmg).
65 normal swings for 650 dmg (60 x 10 dmg)
35 crits swings for 595 dmg (35 X 10 dmg X 170%)
Total dmg is 1245 dmg
Now take the sword spec guy, he'll do the following
70 normal swings for 700 dmg (70 X 10 dmg)
30 crit swings for 510 dmg (30 x 10 dmg X 170%)
3.5 normal sword procs for 35 dmg (3.5 x 10 dmg)
1.5 crit sword procs for 25.5 (1.5 X 10 X 160%)
So a grand total of 1270.5 dmg
Now this doesn't even take into account special abilities which would widen this gap even more.
if u are a MS build w flurry ( or for a 2-h Fury build ) axe spec >> sword spec .. +5% crit gives u more flurries and makes full usage of charges instead of "eating them" as does sword spec procs .. also : sword proc can crit but it can also miss/dodge/parry etc. .. also sword proc can't proc of other sword procs .. for a PvP oriented warrior w endless rage sword spec is > axe spec, cuz no flurry and burst dmg from sword procs
also on the vendor sword vs this axe : axe CAN be obtained @ 65, but sword only @ 66
What enchantment would you suggest dropping on this weapon as a 65 Protection Paladin?
At level 64, this axe pwns any Pre-BC epic out of the water.... The stats / Dps / Base damage on this puppy is just amazing... I have a lvl 64 Warrior who just got this, and I already had a great 2h Axe spec, so I was critting for 1.5k+ with this baby! Was, and still is, great fun pwning clothies with this monster!
u can't get this @ 64 ...
- Requires level 65
I like this weapon as a hunter. (i can hear the argument on a hunter having this right now). I like having the extra stamina. Thru this questline I pulled agro like crazy because I was critting like crazy and our tank couldn't hit as fast as I could shoot.
this was an easy quest for us-
66 hunter, 67 hunter
66 druid tanking
67 preist. he was goood
we never wiped, but people died and we had to redo some parts. we took like 20 mins, and made 60+g
overall, its fun, quik, and easy
I just got this axe yesterday on my hunter at lvl 66. I alternate between it and the Adamantite Cleaver (
). The cleaver gives a bit more to AP, while the voidaxe adds a bit more to crit. As a survival hunter, I really like the little bit of extra crit. Not to mention, this axe looks awesome.
Incrdible ret pally/MS warr weapon. Just got on my freshly dinged 65 pally. u get this along w/ about 70000 XP and 70 gold and a great weapon at the end. I would suggest putting a 7+ dmg on it but thats just me
I just got this and it's sexy as hell
i have this with my warrior and the Claymore isnt really better because that crit rateing is easly topped by specing Pole axes. i have a 23% crit chance in battle stance if i had the claymore id have about 19% because of the claymores rateing. and it is also a very good hunter weapon
Well, I agree that it isn't designed as a hunter weapon. However, if you have the ability to, you can slap a savagery enchant on there and it is much better than any "of the Bandit" of the same level.
The green sword bought from the vendor in Halaa is better for a Ret Paly as they dont have to worry about weapon spec. The Higher Top dmg and Crit make it a better choice. Instead Palys should go for the healing mace as you can't do much better till Northshire Battlemace which drops in Old Hillsbrad. Plus Sword looks cool with that purple glow :)
Personally id save this quest chain for lvl 70 after which u get about double the gold reward, after which this axe would be pretty much useless as ud most definately find something better. So in the end, id take the claymore at 66 and just vendor/shard the axe at 70 for even more gold, with a total of ~120g after the quest and vendoring the axe, or ~110g + selling a Large Prismatic Shard on AH(about 25g on my server).
135g for a short quest chain at 70 seems pretty fair to me ;)
You know the glow in it? It is said that the more things you kill with the axe, the more it glows... my brother had this for a week, all he had been donig was farming.... the glow was humongous..
This is just folk tale, so dont screw around with my pretty lil legend!!!! ><
dude who can tell me where i can get the wep cuz i still use a lvl 5 wep and im lvl 10
my char is darnok
Well im a Fury warrior atm so,
Lol you guys are ganna hate me so much, but i picked the dagger so i can have a better off-hand.
i was using Grunt's Waraxe
as my off hand before.
so just look at the stats before you hate it for being a dagger
I'm currently skilling for my dagger, cuz I find it way better for tanking than Shadowrend Longblade, and I am curious about range. my guess it's not supose to matter since mellee range is mellee range, right?
anyways until the scimitar
from mana tombs drops for me, this dagger will have to do it!
Damage range still matters. Normalization only applies to AP.
Damage range does indeed matter! A weapon with a higher damage range will
hit harder than a weapon with a smaller one, assuming you're using a normalized ability.
Normalization only caps the AP bonus on abilities based on speed. Whenever a skill is used, it will take a number form the damage range, then add and multiply the appropriate bonuses such as AP. So, while it may not be
, damage range does still play a factor.
Has anyone noticed that the look of this item has changed in-game? Someone told me they were certain it was a graphics glitch on my end but I'm not the only person who can see it. When I view it in game, the center is not a glowing ball that gets progressively brighter; it's only a crystal. Also, there are three crystalline spikes that come out of it, one at the bottom and two at the top/side. Has anyone else noticed this?
Here's a comparison pic I made, the top pic is how it looks for me, the bottom is a pic I found here on wowhead that someone submitted.
ture, every retri pally ive seen who has done this quest has this axe, pritty good for DPSing in dungens (8% of a mob in underbog PER HIT) that pally was 1st in damage meter
Quote: "Sword spec is superior to axe spec or anything else if you think about the math, the reason being is that sword specs can crit. Think about it which would you rather have 5% more crit, or a 5% chance to get in another swing that has a chance to also crit?"
Yes, and sword spec can also be dodged, blocked, missed or parried. All in all, Sword/Axe/Fist/mace all evens out.
i am a level 65 warrior shall i wait until i am level 66 or?shall i just find a level 70 priest and a 70 warrior tank?
Funny how no 1 mentioned about this axe's graphics.
C'mon, you guys know looks matters alot in this game =P
Anyway, a thing to mention is that glowing ball centered in the axe, unequip the axe & equip it again.
The glowing white light starts off small & gradually grows in time until it become a bright ball of white light.
Interesting how the ball of light is white instead of being black seeing that this item is called Voidaxe.
Possibly a hint about the connections between the Naaru & Voidwalkers?
Just something for you guys to think about :)
The Ring of Blood questchain is great for any lvl65 and gives weapons that can last you to 70.
I just did it with my DK on Beta. Good times.
The whitesh light effect in the axe grows from small to very big! bit like a sun thats about to explode.
Look on the bright side fury warriors, come 3.0 you'll be able to take the Axe AND the Halaa sword :D Yay Titan's Grip!
As an Orc death knight I'm looking forward to this, sure the strikes on the halaa sword would be higher but 5 expertise and the superior stats outweight it by a fair amount :)
"mmmm, I can't wait..."
-- 60 Deathknight, Bartelby.
Great axe to pick up as a leveling Death Knight!
Anyone know what would be the next step up from this? (easy to get, like a quest reward or vender)
This will definately replace my Hellreaver, however, doesnt look nearly as good.
Same as Silentsavant It Dosent Looks As Awsum As
But m gonna Keep my Hellreaver and the
I found today Boosting my Friend
Realy Awsum Axe!
Narielm Lvl 65 Death Knight
Indeed a good upgrade for a Death Knight, but also any two-hand user currently using Helboar Carving Blade or Hellreaver, with the exception of a Hunter.
Also worth mentioning is the fact that there are numerous uncommon-quality upgrades easily obtained at 68-69 in Northrend, however the best upgrade would most certainly be Axe of Frozen Death, which is obtained through the last part of a rather fun quest chain.
As far as the Ring of Blood goes, it's very easily done by two 65+ DK's, and a healer..no need to find 4 other people for this anymore.
I got a question here.
Pls bear with me, since I'm still learning the ropes in the game.
I have the
on my lvl 67 DK.
I have now finished the ring of blood quest-chain here in outland (damn good one, it was fun, me and my friends enjoyed this a lot) and now I got the honed voidaxe.
but shortly after, we took halaa and I saw that Halaani 2-hand sword in the vendor.
my question is, I should stay with the pole? or replace it with the axe? or heck get the 2-hand sword?
as far as esthetics go, the sword really looks crappy, while the axe and pole look cool, but if the sword is a real upgrade to my overall DPS, then I'm willing to sacrifice good looks for the sake of efectiveness.
any tips apreciated
just one thing.. Halaani claymore isnt unique :p
This axe, at its level, is very powerful and well worth getting for melee warrior, palys and death knights.
My paladin is currently using
, and the stat difference at 65 puts the voidaxe better then the reaper. Of course this changed with the reaper in a few levels, but I used it until 67 and then de it.
a well gemmed and enchanted Hatebringer, from the underbog, is superior to this axe, especially for human/dwarf characters.
I reccomend this axe, it is great, but there are better choices if you're alliance.
if you're horde, take hatebringer anyway ^_^
amazing axe i used till i got just over lvl 70 then i got the axe from magisters terrace but still a kick ass axe
not really. you slap that same enchant on any "of the bandit" and now they are better than this.
I lol'ed : )
we can dual wield the Honed Voidaxe like
did. I waited for this for
Do NOT get this on a Hunter. Strength is useless on a Hunter, and since Staff of Beasts is now normalized to accept Hunters, get that. Even before, though, Dual Wielding Mag'hari Fury Brand or Cerimonial War Dagger is better; Strength is bad. "Oh, an extra stat!" An extra stat that increases Melee on a strictly ranged-only Class...
Seems self-explanitory to me, but still I see Hunters with it.
For a hunter, simply suck it up and take the
instead of this weapon.
it is good two handed axe until lvl70 (sorry for my bad english)
I'm wondering personally if Hatebringer would be a better option when placing Northrend blue gems in it. (namely hast and AP/Agi gems)
I got this sexy thing on my Death Knight. It's
flippin good for blood tanking
Very good weapon for Arms Warrior. Strength, Agility, Stamina and decent Damage. If you can play, this is tool of destruction =)
For levelling basically any 2H class, I recommend
] (Terokk's Quill) from sethekk halls quest over this. They're obtainable at the same level, 65, quill somewhat easier to get since you can just queue through dungeon finder
Terokk's Quill has
Higher damage range
11.8 more weapon dps
24 more agility
loses 31 strength
loses 12 stam
62 AP is pretty big, but 11.8 weapon dps and higher top end is completely massive.
/cry at the hunter with this in the screenshots.
How about this, grab the haalani claymore for a 2h, and the maghari fury brand (or mogor's club for pallies) as a 1h.
You get your dps weapon, your tanking weapon, and/or possibly your healing weapon.
If you dont need a 1h, you might as well grab the voidaxe. you'll upgrade at level 68 if you quest in borean tundra and you'll be able to vendor instead of spendor on the claymore.
For all you folks looking to transmogrify one of these weapons I've looked through all of the weapons and assessed which weapon skins are available by means other than this quest. I have created a list in descending order from "Hardest" to "Easiest" to obtain. *
Staff of Beasts
IS A UNIQUE MODEL
- There is currently
other weapon in the game
available to players
- Has one lookalike
from a quest in Netherstorm
*HOWEVER* This alternate is a ONE-HANDED AXE. This means you CANNOT transmogrify your two-handed axe with this weapon.
Ceremonial Warmaul Blood-Blade
One other weapon
in the game shares this skin. It
drops from Garr
in Molten Core. Since its on a weekly lockout it may be a pain if you get an unlucky streak.
Battle Mage's Baton
- Has one accessible lookalike in Normal Ramparts from
Omor the Unscarred
Mogor's Anointing Club
- Has 3 other lookalikes. The easiest of which may be from
normal Blood Furnace
Mag'hari Fury Brand
- Has 6 other variations that are eligible for transmogrification and most of them are ridiculously easy to get including
If you are capable and potentially could use a staff (caster/hunter/druid...warriors never use staffs)
Staff of Beasts
is a no-brainer as there is NO other source for this model.
is another no-brainer depending on whether or not you use a two-handed weapon or one-handed weapon. If you have plans on using a two-handed axe you will NOT want to pass this up as the other weapon that shares its model is a ONE-HANDED axe.*
The only other model that may be a challenge to obtain is the
Ceremonial Warmaul Blood-Blade
, but is still obtainable outside of this quest. All others are easily obtainable by other means and can be passed up without loss of sleep.
*These evaluations are expecting you to be max level. They are of course subjective, so please do not down rate merely because of opinion. Items with no other skin or obtainable only from raid bosses were weighted as "harder" compared to weapons that were craftable or obtainable from dungeon bosses easily solo'd by max level characters. Some weapons may have other sources (unless otherwise noted), but only acknowledged the most accessible sources.
* Thanks CalaelenDT, for pointing this out. I was making this late at night and trying to get through it quickly. I didn't even think to check if the resonating was one or two handed because most models simply couldn't pass as either. I have since corrected it. Thanks for helping. :)
Sry to say this but the only item that use the same model as this axe is a One-handed axe and not Two-handed so if you sold it than the only way is to make a ticket to a gm and ask if they can give it back to you.
Be warned that if you lost this item Pre-WotLK, you will never have it restored. After speaking to GM's, they will never restore any item that they cannot track in their logs. If you have lost it, it is gone forever.
I could almost swear that they reskinned this axe. I dont remember that peice near the handle nor the inner core of the blade having that detail.
I asked for a restore on this item, and the answer I got (no) looked canned.
We definitely value the time and effort required to complete quests within World of Warcraft, and that is exactly why we'll be unable to provide a swap/reimbursement in this situation.
Each decision you make in choosing a quest reward and managing your inventory is an important component of the gameplay experience. So, as part of that experience, it is important that you consider which item you want carefully since you’ll keep it until finding an upgrade. The same goes for when you’re considering keeping an item or getting rid of it for extra inventory space while doing a little spring cleaning.
We want these decisions to be meaningful to the growth of your character, and not a choice made lightly. While we understand that the Game Master department is an important resource to assist with in-game issues, it has always been important that we do not become a crutch that could dilute such important choices and ultimately the overall gaming experience.
Remember, our developers are always monitoring these situations and tweaking them as necessary.
The new Void Storage service planned for future release
should make the decision of keeping an item or not a bit easier! And as always you can share your feedback and suggestions directly with the developers at <
Be sure to carefully consider each decision you make when it comes to choosing an item from a quest or selling an old favorite!
i figure it's worth mentioning for those who would like to transmog this axe, it DOES show enchants.
I love this axe so much! I used it on my Human Paladin transmog :)
