Ask the Devs #11: Healing
2011-07-15 в 12:16
Ask the Devs #11 was posted and this time it's all about healing. As someone who has played a healer since vanilla, I probably have too many opinions here so I'll let you guys do most of the reading--overall, there are some good questions, especially the one about Holy priest viability in top PvE content, but the answers aren't necessarily the best. And while Mana Tide is brought up, they don't talk much about how currently many guilds bring a Resto shaman in over another class solely for that buff.
I spend a lot of my time in raids keeping Water Shield up, which I rely on to maintain enough mana. There have been times I've neglected to heal someone because I had to refresh Water Shield. Why are shaman healers less effective compared to other healing classes? – Epistemology (NA), Ерз (EU-RU)
We’d like to be more consistent about what does and doesn’t trigger Water Shield. Having the shield trigger when taking direct damage, and consume an orb, is consistent with how all shaman shields work. On some encounters though, constant pulsing damage probably burns through those charges too quickly and doesn’t need

News Round Up: Cross Server Real ID Grouping, Valor Point Acquisition, and More
2011-07-14 в 14:19
A little while ago Blizzard mentioned that they had a new Real ID feature in development--one that would allow Real ID friends to form parties across multiple realms, so that friends can run dungeons together, even if they are not on the same server.
Well, this feature is now somewhat done and available to be tested for free. Blizzard also mentioned that this will be one of the premium features of the Real ID service, so it might become paid in the future.
When delving into the depths of Azeroth's darkest dungeons, it always helps to have some friends at your side... now you're able to issue a call to arms no matter what realm they play on. We're pleased to announce the new Real ID Party feature is now available for testing! This new feature will allow World of Warcraft players to invite their real-life Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.
To learn more about Real ID, please visit the Real ID web page and read the FAQ.

. It's a crazy time in 4.2 with all the new things to do, but really, quest hubs and rep grinds are nothing new to the game. The Exalted is still a prestigious title to get, especially if you haven't been playing since vanilla, so we'll highlight the available factions and spotlight fun titles and vanity items you can get along the way. Blizzard has a history of putting in complex reputation hubs--Isle of Quel'Danas, Argent Tournament, so if you enjoy Hyjal dailies, these older hubs are worth checking out when the 4.2 dust settles. if you can't stand questing, you can zerg older instances in your level 85 epics. We've recently updated the information on some of our faction and currency pages, so now is a great time to check them out!
For personal achievements, there are a series of reputation-related ones:

News Roundup: Latest Hotfixes, PVP Season Transition Compensation
2011-07-08 в 21:46
Today brings a new batch of 4.2 hotfixes, including a number of changes and fixes to some Firelands encounters, and important details on Blizzard's planned action regarding the recent Season 9 and 10 PVP item mess. We reported on this "disaster" in yesterday's roundup, where Blizzard admitted fault in miscommunication of new PVP item availability, resulting in many players spending their saved Honor points on now-outdated gear. Well, affected players can rejoice because Blizzard plan on making it up to you with some free Honor!
Oh, and no 4.3 details just yet. ;)

News Round Up: Crystallized Firestones, Level 80 RAF, and Firelands Progression
2011-07-07 в 21:10
There has been a lot of speculation that the rest of the VP items will indeed be able to become 391 ilevel with the use of a
. Instead of getting these upgrades from the vendor like you do for the other 391 items, you would be able to apply it to the item for your upgrade. Unfortunately the firestone droprate is lower than it should be, so few guilds have seen them, and the ones seen have been presumably used right away on the existing 391 vendor items so no one has tested this theory.
A user sent this link in to us showing their conversation with GMs and there have been a lot of other logs circling around. Hopefully someone confirms this ASAP; a GM response is never proof, but at the same time, it would be nice and it would explain the 391 items we have in our DB. It's possible that they just never implemented them.

News Roundup: Hotfixes and New Honor Gear
2011-07-07 в 00:05
Blizzard sometimes makes mistakes and today was all about addressing them apparently--there are a lot of hotfixes to read that fix 4.2's bigger problems and there's also a blue explanation for the PvP gear.
Regarding the PvP gear situation for those who don't PvP (or didn't log on yet), they gave us new season 10 gear that was purchasable with honor without requirements. This came right after season 9 gear became available last week for honor and similarly without requirements. This means lot of people farmed honor all last week since new gear was available and will now have to farm it again for the ilevel increased season 10 gear--which is actually the same season 9 gear with massively increased stats.
This is a pretty major change; it's streamlining PvP gear for those who don't do RBGs or arenas much like how they streamlined valor points for those who don't raid. Much like how you can get a decent PvE set without doing heroic modes or raiding hardcore, you can now get a great PvP set without having to live in the arena. Like any major change, it's being received very negatively, largely in part to this lack of announcement and foresight.
P.S. The best hotfix? There are now more wounded defenders in Hyjal for the dailies! Se
News Round Up: Season 10 Starts, Boss Strategies, and More

The first real attempts on hardmodes are happening today; so far, since the EU servers still can't complete, it's a pretty intense race between Blood Legion, Premonition, and Vodka. Heroic

along with their strategies--the videos are from our affiliated site, Tankspot, and the strategies mostly written by Wowhead with some of TS' strategies mixed in. Hopefully this helps out those of you who are looking to engage and start clearing the zone this reset; it's a fairly easy zone, but it can be hard to progress past a certain point for a lot of guilds.

New Expansion Rumored to be Vengeance of the Void
2011-07-03 в 21:53
There's "a leaked document" from Blizzard making the rounds this holiday weekend; we figured we'd post it here before you guys started tipping us off to it and asking why we didn't respond to it. Like anything that's unofficial and comes from an unreliable source, this is an unconfirmed rumor and probably fake so take it with a grain of salt; there's a good chance it's just some fan trying to get their fifteen minutes of fame. However, it's definitely a well done fake if it is one. The only really suspicious part is the header itself which has the wrong address (Blizzard is based in Irvine, CA)--the person who created this knows their lore.
The "document" mostly gives an overview of what levels 85-90 will be like, detailing how the expansion will take place years after the Burning Crusade and focus on Outland's growing instability. The Burning Legion would be the central antagonist after Deathwing's demise. Demon Hunters will also supposedly take a supporting role in the expansion, though not as a playable class.
This would be an interesting direction--TBC and the Outlands in general are long considered the best expansion, the setting having earned a fond place in most player
