Cataclysm Beta (Build 13066) Maps & Icons
2010-09-25 в 10:07
We have a new build for the beta servers, as of right now the servers haven't gone down for maintenance nor is this one actually downloadable through the client. But that doesn't mean we don't have some juicy new Maps and Icons for you! In the map area we have a few updated maps mostly with a few minor changes to the art and there is one new map this time of
Ан'Кираж: Павшее Королевство
, which I assume is the over-world area version of AQ40.\r
A large amount of new icons were added in this build - everything from new icons for
, Darkmoon Faire Cards, and even brand new icons for all the new currencies.\r
Just a quick note for everyone looking for an updated talent calculator and data for the rest of the site we should have all that updated later today, so stay tuned!\r
You can check out all the maps and icons after the break!
Cataclysm Beta: Tol Barad Focus Test
2010-09-24 в 17:00
Blizzard Developers will be on the beta realms on Monday September 27th at 4PM PST to test
. You will need to be level 85 to join the battle and the timers between battles will be sped up so several games can be played during this testing period.\r
We are planning to do a focused playtest on Tol Barad on Monday the 27th at 4pm PST. We would like to get as many players out there on the beta to help us as possible. You must be level 85 to join the battle. We will speed up the game timer so we can play multiple games during the test. \r
I will make a new feedback post after we finish the test for everyone to post in. Feedback is very important for us at this point so please take your time and try to be as concise as possible with your findings. \r
Thanks for the help!

The Weekly Marmot - Thinking Like a Designer
2010-09-23 в 01:21
This week, I step back a little and examine game balance from a designer's perspective. What kind of thought process do they go through when they decide to make balance changes? What don't they think about? And how does that differ from the ways in which players usually consider the game? How many times can my dog wander into the reflection on my poster in one episode? How ridiculously awful can a preview frame get?\r
Let's find out.\r

Non-English words? In my CAPTCHA?
2010-09-22 в 15:21
People who have been adding comments or forum posts to our site recently may have noticed something peculiar about the random codes you have to type to prove you're human (a.k.a. CAPTCHA). We've gotten several reports that non-English words are slipping into the ReCAPTCHA panel, causing people to have to refresh the panel to get a new code. Obviously, having to do this at all is a nuisance, let alone several times.\r
I dug into the issue and discovered that, apparently, the ReCAPTCHA team improperly marked many books as English books. They've been weeding out the bad books and have improved their QA process beyond "view a few random pages in the book" to make sure they aren't actually trying to digitize a book that's only partially English.\r
In the meantime, the annoying codes that you can't type should be slowly disappearing.\r
For now, Wowhead plans to continue to use ReCAPTCHA as we believe it provides a useful service. In addition, as annoying as this issue was, it beats having to debug issues with our home-brewe
Blizzard Introduces Automated Account Recovery
2010-09-22 в 14:40
The first step to recovery!Blizzard has announced a new feature part of their Battle.net website - Account Recovery Form. This new form will hopefully expedite your recovery process after being hacked by asking you some questions that only you may know the answers to and then proceeds to automatically attempt to recover your account! This new process will also issue you a password reset via email, and automatically enter a GM ticket for you. You won't see this ticket visibly in-game, but you will receive an email with the ticket number and any other information.\r
You can check out the new form on the Battle.net Website and you can read the original announcement after the break!\r
A Brief Aside: StarCraft II Patch 1.1
2010-09-22 в 02:27
So while Wowhead has not yet become SCHead, Blizzard's space RTS is still a game I play frequently and one I watch the news about. And one of the more important and recent news is that the first somewhat big patch was released on Tuesday, September 21 - that's just yesterday, yes.\r
Here is the basic idea of the not-so-groundbreaking changes. Zealot rushes from a proxy Gateway are a little too powerful, especially against a Zerg (you know, 'cause rushing a Terran with their choke full of buildings can be done...), so the build time of the Zealot is being increased. Warp Gate cooldown also goes up for those of you who love spending 4,000 minerals in less than a minute by dropping a million Zealots. The Terran is getting a few (deserved, in my opinion) nerfs - longer build time on Reapers and Barracks, and less damage on Siege Tanks and Battlecruisers. Similarly to this, the Zerg Ultralisks' are having their base damage lowered, and their anti-building attack (Ram) goes away and is being replaced by their basic attack.\r
Let me give you the full patch notes aft

Final Fantasy XIV, and I Didn't Even Have to Mention the Lack of Jump
2010-09-21 в 17:32
I think I have just finished probably one the most controversial MMOs in recent history. You either hate this game or you love it, there is virtually no middle ground here. Also, their fans are not afraid to speak out against the "WoW Fanboys" citing the repeating caves as their sole defense for massive chunks of repeating terrain in the game's open world. There is no doubt that regardless of what anyone says, Final Fantasy XIV is going to be successful. Which is totally fine, but that certainly doesn't give it immunity from a BFF Report style ribbing.\r
WoW is always the game that defending fans of other titles associate their opposition with, what do you guys think of that? Especially after seeing this episode, do you think that WoW compares\/is better\/is dated? \r
Hit me up on facebook or twitter and let me know what you think. I'm out on vacation celebrating my annual old day. WOOOO!
