First Look at Jewelcrafting & Leatherworking on Dragonflight Alpha | Wowhead Economy Weekly Wrap-Up 238
14 дн. назад
Hello! Welcome to the 238th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
This week in Dragonflight Alpha we get a first glimpse at the Professions Leatherworking and Jewelcrafting. These two professions can form the mainstay of goldmaking with their widely desirable products. Here we will take a look at what's to come in both the professions and their specializations.
My name is
and I'll be your guide through the World of Gold Making!
Jewelcrafting & Leatherworking
First up, we have a couple of new professions to look at, Jewelcrafting and Leatherwoking. I have a video going through the basic levelling process and investigate both professions here ...
Of course with these professions comes a new set of prospected gems & skinning materials. Who better to sell them than a pre-skinned Tauren!!
For Leatherworking we have the usual collection of skin & scales to make use of...
Some of the later ones don't appear to currently have a quality attached to them, so perhaps they are obtained by means other than Skinning?
For Jewelcrafting, there are a set of gems from prospecting depending on with of the 3 ores you prospect...
There are 3 by-products from prospecting - Finely Ground Gemstones, Fractured Glass and Crumbled Stone
Then we have 5 main gems - Mystic Sapphire, Vibrant Emerald, Sundered Onyx, Queen's Ruby and Eternity Amber
We also get a set of dragon themed gems - Malygite, Ysemerald, Neltharite, Alexstraszite and Nozdorite
Finally, there's also a rare gem - Illimited Diamond..
The whole mass prospecting interface has been integrated into Jewelcrafting with an elegant pop-out selection menu..
Here you can see Inspiration, Resourcefulness and Multicraft will play a part through further skill level, equipment and specialization.
What's interesting in particular with the Faceting specialization is that there's mention of discovering new design which you do get at the end for more specialist gems ..
For Leatherworking, we have a whole slew of recipes & patterns as you would expect having two armour sets to produce. This is where the crafted leatherworking patterns are going to be in high demand as Evokers are mail wearers!
There's also a really nice trinket, the
Masterwork Riding Crop
which increases mount speed by 10% reminiscent of the
Carrot on a Stick
As for specializations, much like Blacksmithing there is a subset for each armour type.
And then there's a third armour type reserved for elemental armour..
The recipes for which are locked behind learning the specialization such as this Flaring Cowl from Elemental Mastery..
Both of these professions look to be really solid from a gold making perspective. There are a lot of desirable items that can be crafted and the crafter is going to need to go deep into specialization to get the most out of these professions thus limiting the supply at least early on.
Merged Auction House Speculation
Before we even get to Dragonflight, we still have a major change looming which will change the way of gold making radically. The is the
merged commodities market coming in 9.2.7
There has been more recent discussion and speculation this week coming from
I haven't been a goblin for very long. But I have to say that I am very skeptical about the upcoming changes that are planned for the auction house.
I don't know how it is in NA or other regions but in EU it is announced that all auction houses in Europe will be merged.
This would mean that the classic buy cheap and sell expensive will be almost impossible because it will be such huge amounts of materials.
And also farming will be little to no longer worth it because the price will be lower than ever.
Or could it be that I don't understand something in the announcement and everything will be different?
I'm a bit philosophical about this. I mean, yeah, it makes it harder for wealthy goblins who can afford to monopolize specific commodities. But I think for the majority of players it's a very good thing. Cartel-style price manipulation is never good for the common buyer. Overpriced commodities obviously affect the profitability of crafted items.
I believe the intent is to make specialized crafted materials more accessible in the future crafting system. Without an stable market of raw commodity materials, the market for the new style of crafted items would be stillborn.
And don't forget, there will be different levels of materials, too. I believe there will still be room for people who have time to put the work in to make good money on valuable materials that can be used to craft the more powerful items.
It just won't be easy, or maybe even possible, to do it the way it has been done. Also, keep in mind, while it may become very difficult for individuals to corner markets, it may still be possible for cartels to form around specific popular commodities. That actually might make the auction game more interesting for some people. If they want to manipulate prices, they're going to have to work together.
That said, I still believe price manipulation is harmful to the larger community of people crafting items.
It's going to be quite a while before the results of all this play out. It will take some time after the new crafting system is in place for the markets to settle. Crafters will take a while to get a good handle on raw material price vs high quality material price vs crafted item value.
There is a lot of speculation surrounding this, but only Blizzard has the full data set to predict how this is going to go. People like to talk about the increased supply while ignoring the increased demand, which leads to a lot of doomsayers predicting the end of gold making... Again. This sort of stuff always gets clicks and views, so it is further amplified by content creators.
But frankly, unless you've previously been able to control a given commodity, or have been transferring guild banks full of items from one server to another, it'll probably be fine. It'll have a stabilizing effect, which yes will certainly make flipping an individual commodity harder. I'm not convinced that is a bad thing for anyone but the flippers.
It'll be better in dragonflight than in shadowlands, simply because the barrier to entry for shadowlands professions is so low, but that is probably one of the reasons why they waited until the latter part of shadowlands to roll it out.
Farming will always be worth it to someone. It hasn't been worth it to me since wod.
It'll also possibly make old world rare mats more common. There are plenty of times I may want to craft something that I'd have to farm the mats for myself because there are maybe 5 on the AH at a time and I need 50. And on the other hand if I found a few of those mats I may never bother posting them because the demand tends to be so infrequent. Having them all combined will be far better for both the buyers and sellers.
The theme here is going to be wait and see, we won't know fully how it will play out. You can get an idea from looking at the markets on full pop realms, but how this all interacts with combined low pop realms remains to be seen. Anything that is good for players in general and draws them more frequently to the Auction House means more opportunities to make gold!
Late Expansion Tricks for Gold & Anima
At this late stage of the expansion, even with the understanding there are no plans for mission tables in Dragonflight there is opportunity to capitalize on alt armies to make a last bit of consistent gold.
has put together a very handy
checklist of getting alts up to speed on mission tables
and how to obtain anima to feed them.
I did not have as much time as I would like to play SL. Now I am trying to catch up, especially in term of gold making from Command Table and other repeatable activities. I have prepared list of things to do. I share it with you, hoping that it will be useful for you too, and you will learn one or two new tricks.
Of course I do not have enough time to do everything on all alts everyday. I complete them on my main only. On alts I usually complete Command Table missions and kill world bosses only.
Note: list below includes items that have to unlocked once on your main.
Initial alt setup:
buy 4 Broker Mark of Distinction and 1 Incense of Infinity from Au'Dara in Oribos (next to Flight Master);
join every Covenant, then use Broker Mark of Distinction to bump Renown to 60 and collect rewards from all Covenant. At the end you should join Night Fae;
travel to Heart of the Forest in Ardenweald and unlock your Covenant Sanctum. Use all skips when they appear (Sanctum, The Maw, Korthia, Zereth Mortis);
start construction of Transport Network, Anima Conductor and Command table using your initial 4K Anima and souls;
use Incense of Infinity when you unlock Forge of Bonds;
Further one-time upgrades:
reach Renown 80;
every time you upgrade all 4 Covenant buildings to level 1/2/3, you will get achievement and unlock one more Anima item in rewards from many sources (e.g. Cmd Table, WQs, Dailies). Upgrade everything to level 1 as a minimum. Level 2 is harder but still recommended (start upgrading from Cmd Table). Level 3 looks like an overkill so may be skipped, maybe except upgrading to Transport Network to lvl 3 - Oribos portal in Sanctum saves a lot of travel time If you still have extra Anima, upgrade Command Table as a 2nd, then remaining 2 ones;
complete initial Korthia quests to unlock Archivist Roh-Suir as a vendor. Also complete initial set of daily Korthia quests
after doing above quests you should have enough Cataloged Research to buy and use Treatise: The Study of Anima and Harnessing Every Drop from Archivist Roh-Suir. This item gives you extra 25 Anima from many sources (WQs, dailies, treasures, killing rares);
you may also buy Research Report: Relic Examination Techniques from Archivist Roh-Suir to get bonus Archivists' Codex reputation. This item is BoA, so you can buy it on your main and send it to the alt;
complete quest chain next to Arena in Maldraxxus, which starts with I Could Be A Contender quests offered by Louison at entrance to the Arena. This will unlock after next weekly reset daily quest Bet On Yourself from Au'narim;
Weekly and daily world activities:
every week you will have 3 world bosses to kill: Antros (in ZM), Mor'Geth (The Maw) and 3rd one in one of 4 Covenant Zones. Every one of them gives 500 Anima;
Mor'Geth kill gives 25% to Shaping Fate quest from Kortia, so make sure to pickup it first. You will get Death's Advance War Chest and more anima every 4 weeks just by killing Mor'Geth every week;
buy or craft Comfortable Rider's Barding for your mount. This item plus iLvl ~200 is enough to survive ride from Ve'nari to Mor'Geth. When you reach Mor'Geth platform, ride around it and a bit to the alley on the opposite side (not too far!) to drop aggro from last mobs chasing you. You may also have to ride a bit more around platform and to other alleys too if it did not work 1st time;
Covenant Maw Assaults are two times a weeks (they start at weekly reset and 3.5 day later), they also add progress for Shaping Fate quest and other rewards;
Antros kill gives 20% to Patterns Within Patterns quest, so remember to pick it up first;
another quest worth picking up is A New Deal, which gives 35% for Patterns Within Patterns plus 500/3000 Honor after completion. I read that this quests disappears with end of current seasons, and it was unclear if new one will be added for new season next week;
War Mode (required for A New Deal quest) also gives you bonus Anima and gold from WQs (Enlisted bonus). I enable it for Antros only, for other bosses it takes too long to complete group (YMMV);
Covenant Callings (new one every day, lasts for 3 days) gives ~1.4k gold after completion. It is good to wait until you will have 3 callings available, many times you will have 2 or even all 3 in the same zone;
tons of Anima can be also gathered from WQs, dailies, treasures and rares in ZM and Korthia. ZM is a bit easier, as you can fly plus there are more players there waiting for rares to kill;
sometimes other WQs appears which also award 500 Anima. They can last like other WQs, or are tied to Covenant Calling and are available for whole 3 days;
when these WQs asks you to kill mobs or close portals, join a group. It is much faster to complete them in a group than alone, even if you have high iLvl gear;
for Amateur Night WQ remember to pick up Bet On Yourself quest from Au'narim for extra Anima. You may have to kill 1 or 2 extra bosses in arena though, as usually there are 4 bosses per day in rotarion;
Replenish the Reservoir quest completed at Renown 80 gives ~1.6k gold. This quest can be completed for every Covenant every week, so you can earn ~6.4k gold per week this way. However this requires a lot of extra traveling between Sanctums and Oribos to switch Covenants and pickup/return quests what takes lots of time, so I usually complete it on one Covenant only, expect when I switch them for other reason;
you may also complete more WQs and dailes in Covenant zones if you still have time;
at the beginning use initial Wisps of Memory, follower XP items and high XP table missions to level your 1st companion (Niya for Night Fae) to level 60 as fast as possible. This will also level all your troops to level 60 too. Night Fae's troops are the strongest one, so later they will easily complete most missions for you;
after you level your 1st companion and troops to 60, recruit other available companions (do not recruit them earlier!);
avoid leveling your other companions beside 1st one as much as possible. Leveling also increases table mission levels, making them more difficult for troops to complete. Unfortunately it is not possible to disable XP gains for companions, so the only way is to avoid high XP missions and do not use XP items;
level Command Table (Adventure Campaign Progress) to 16 to unlock all rewards. Last 4 levels do not add any new rewards and increases mission difficulty. It is enough to do them once on your main to get mounts;
I read that the easiest way to recruit Torghast companions is to do this during A Paladin's Soul quest, as they often will spawn in 1st room on 1st Torghast floor. Make sure to unlock Box of Many Things first, as its NPC will spawn instead of companion. I did not have change to test this method yet. Source:
Recommended addons to automate Command Table:
VenturePlanSoDMissions - this one is tricky to install. Follow instruction from 1st link how to modify Venture Plan addon code and install outdated version of VenturePlanSoDMissions, then continue with 2nd link to install version with latest fixes:
Bonus: my TLDR settings for alts where I leveled Command Table to 16:
Mission priority (1st TLDR tab):
Anima (all types)
Pet Charms (I still need to buy that 10k pet)
Crafting Materials (all except Fishing and Cooking ones)
Reputation Tokens (all)
I also have red X for Bonus Follower XP and Campaign Mission Progress, and empty square for other ones;
Advanced TLDR settings (2nd TLDR tab):
hardest missions first;
prefer fewest followers;
lowest level followers first;
minimum troops: 1;
follower level below mission level: 60 (max);
anima price limit: 60;
I also set all alts to use Default profile, so I have all settings in one place for all of them (configured on 3rd TLDR tab).
I hope that you have found this useful. I am open for comments and improvement suggestions.
few more tips:
rares in Zereth Mortis can be killed and farmed multiple times a day. Use Toxicialic Crystallic Spheroid for faster killing (thanks WouldYouTurnMeOn);
Swagsnout Gromit in Korthia loves to run away in random direction and often I have no idea where. To solve this, I put raid marker on him. This big orange circle over his head is easy to find, even when he is hidden behind some rock or something. Keep in mind that raid marker disappears when Swagsnout Gromit respanws for some reason (e.g. you entered portal or he was too far away from you), so keep an eye on him and reapply it as needed;
Use "Finish Completed Missions" button in TLDR window to complete all missions instead of "Complete All" one added by Venture Plan to Command Table window. TLDR button completes all missions much faster than VP one;
This is an incredibly comprehensive checklist and it's never too late to add more alts to the pool especially with the
XP buff going on right now!
