Hunter Dragonflight Class Tree
Hunter Dragonflight Talent Tree: What's New?
One of Dragonflight's biggest new features is the totally revamped Talent system. Old-school players might recognize some of the traits, as we are back to having Talent Trees with branches and nodes, with a limited set of points to put in all of them.
For the generic Hunter Class Tree, we have a variety of abilities that were previously locked down to specific Hunter specs, including
Команда "Взять!"
. Yes, Marksmanship Hunters can now use
Команда "Взять!"
, what has this world come to...
The rest of the tree primarily consists of talents that we have known for a while in the previous system, including but not limited to utility like
Застрельщик
,
Быстрая реакция
,
Природное лечение
,
Камуфляж
,
Устрашение
,
Непокорный дух
, and DPS Talents like
Шквал
,
Разрывной выстрел
,
Укус змеи
,
Мастер стрельбы
, and more.
The tree also includes previously baked-in utility such as our interrupt,
Усмиряющий выстрел
,
Перенаправление
, and
Отпугивание
.
Some of the new highlights of the Hunter Class Tree include:
Омолаживающий ветер
- A Conduit from Shadowlands that enhances our main self-heal. We are in dire need of defensive options having lost our strong defensive Conduits, so this is welcome.
Выносливость природы
- One-shots were always a big problem mechanic for Hunters in high Mythic+. This goes a long way to helping that as the additional 20% DR roughly covers what we are missing from our lost Conduits. The alternate pick in this node,
Единственный выживший
, trades off the strength of the DR for more duration and frequency. I suspect we will be choosing the former more often, however...
Ошеломляющий выстрел
- Another weakness of Marksmanship Hunter in Mythic+ has been a lack of single-target stuns and stops for important, unkickable casts. This goes a long way to fixing that, although the short range is kind of problematic and antithetical to Marksmanship's long-range, sniper-like playstyle. I suspect this will not be a default pick, as it competes with
Связующий выстрел
in the same node.
Устрашение
- Marksmanship gets access to the pet stun previously reserved for Beast Mastery and Survival. This solves the issues of
Ошеломляющий выстрел
, but of course, it has twice the cooldown. If you use both, you can be quite flexible and perform a lot of stops in Mythic+ which is a huge bonus.
Сова-часовой
- One of the coolest abilities on our tree, in my opinion. I desperately hope they will add some in-game way of tracking the Focus spent for this mechanic, however, as it will otherwise be completely unpredictable for novice players who do not use fancy WeakAuras. It has two choice nodes below it in
Зоркость часового
and
Защита часового
, which could both have relevant use in some situations.
There are other cool abilities and I urge you to play with our
Dragonflight Talent Calculator
yourself to explore!
Hunter Dragonflight Talent Tree: First Impressions
The tree is dominated by talents that we know and sometimes even love. It is fairly easy to obtain the utility and defensive abilities we care most about, without sacrificing the few DPS-increasing nodes in the tree.
Marksmanship Hunter Spec Talent Tree
Marksmanship Dragonflight Talent Tree: What's New?
Our spec tree mostly consists of Shadowlands-era Talents and Legendary Abilities we know already. It generally all leads into a more
Убийственный выстрел
-heavy playstyle.
Some of the most interesting new things are listed below.
Одинокий волк
- Okay, it's not new. But it will almost certainly be chosen unless Kill Command builds on the Class Tree are somehow extremely overpowered.
Убийственный удар
- Our first strong clue in the tree of just how much Blizzard wants us to use and care about
Убийственный выстрел
more than just a weak execute ability. This will pair excellently with
Меткий стрелок
and
Острые фрагменты
. I would not be surprised if our single-target build of the future will come to look a lot like the Venthyr Marksmanship Hunter of today.
В яблочко
- This talent made Marksmanship execute very fun and strong in the Legion expansion. One could use abilities that hit multiple times like
Шквал
to stack it up very quickly.
Шквал
still sucks, though, but imagine stacking Bullseye all the way up in an instant with a single
Быстрая стрельба
during execute.
Крупнокалиберные патроны
/
Малокалиберные патроны
- A simple, but powerful and meaningful choice. Less capped AoE, or stronger capped AoE. You will swap this around depending on the situation, but I suspect that Heavy Ammo will see more mileage as it is rare to have 7 priority targets all at once. With that said...
Шквальный огонь
suddenly provides a lot of value to
Малокалиберные патроны
above in heavy AoE situations.
Залп
can be a substantial part of our damage when combining this and
Точные выстрелы
earlier in the tree, and it is our only totally uncapped AoE ability besides
Беглый огонь
.
Хитрость ловца змей
is not new or particularly special, but I wanted to highlight it because it might mean you generate two stacks of
В яблочко
for every
Прицельный выстрел
you cast. And that's nice.
Наследие Ветрокрылых
offers an additional avenue of more
В яблочко
from your casts. Suddenly stacking and maintaining Bullseye will become nearly instant and trivial.
Верный глаз
can be paired with
В яблочко
and
Зазубренные стрелы
for an absurd amount of burst damage during execute.
Стенающая стрела
will reset the cooldown of Rapid Fire and grant a charge of Aimed Shot. This could be fun to play with and very much fits Marksmanship's short-term bursty playstyle. At a fairly long 1-minute cooldown, however, it feels as if we are missing an ability akin to Resonating Arrow to line this up with for extra burst. One of the most fun parts of MM historically has been setting up awesome burst on a 1- or 2-minute cadence.
Шквал Ветрокрылой
+
Наследие Ветрокрылых
+
Наставление Ветрокрылой
can turn your
Стенающая стрела
into a powerful, but somewhat unreliable 1-minute burst cooldown. Pair it with other Trueshot-enhancing talents like
Меткость орлиного когтя
and
Верный глаз
to lean even more heavily into this.
Hunter Dragonflight Talent Tree: First Impressions
Overall, I like the Marksmanship Tree for Shadowlands. There are very strong choices to amplify our AoE, extending the target range of our capped AoE, while amplifying our single-target heavily with a strong focus on
Убийственный выстрел
s, enabling a playstyle similar to Venthyr MM in Shadowlands which has rarely been viable but has been an enjoyed playstyle for many.
Убийственный выстрел
has felt weak and unexciting for a long time, and it is about time that they make something more out of it.
There also seems to be a lot of room for enhancing Marksmanship's execute, which would set its damage profile apart from the other two specs and provide a niche that it has lacked for a while. Currently, if Marksmanship's damage profile has any niche, it's reverse execute, or damage above 70% health, which has been historically far, far less useful than execute damage.
Problem Talents and Concerns
Залповый огонь
The internal cooldown on this ability will not be trivial to track without third-party add-ons. But the biggest problem is that it takes all the control of the powerful effect out of the player's hands. Imagine you are coming up to the end of a trash pack, and you happen to be pressing
Залп
, which you are going to be doing approximately all of the time. If the internal cooldown is up, you might just accidentally trigger this extremely powerful effect in a situation where it is useless, and the only way to get around this is to not use
Залп
, the driver of your entire AoE kit.
Устойчивая концентрация
At its core, I have no issue with this talent other than how weak it is. In Shadowlands currently, the talent gives 7% Haste, and it is already basically impossible to convince people to accept the inconvenience of using it over the popular alternative, Streamline.
In the Dragonflight Tree, its position in the tree makes us extremely likely to use it in nearly all situations. Almost no one finds maintaining
Устойчивая концентрация
fun because
Устойчивая концентрация
is a weak filler ability that drives nothing in the rotation aside from a bit of Focus. Now the reward for maintaining
Устойчивая концентрация
is almost halved, with 4% Haste being a nearly unnoticeable amount of Haste, at least in terms of how it feels to play. It could make sense to shorten the duration and strongly buff the Haste bonus, allowing you to set up extremely quick bursts of damage, particularly in the execute window, but without any expectation of being able to or even wanting to maintain the buff constantly.
Bloat and Filler Nodes
Anyone who has tried to play with the Marksmanship Hunter Tree has run into the issue of it being extremely difficult to get to the juicy nodes at the bottom of the tree, without sacrificing one or more "mandatory" talents earlier in the tree. This is because Blizzard has taken some passives that we have taken for granted with Marksmanship, such as the reduction of Arcane and
Залп
's Focus requirement to 20, and the inclusion of Rapid Fire as a spec ability, and turned them into talents that we absolutely MUST pick to have a decent spec. These are somewhat wasted points, and they make it impossible to reach the two highlight single-target nodes at the bottom.
In an ideal world, I think that every talent point invested should translate not only to more damage, but a tangible difference in playstyle, rotational decision-making, or at the very least speeding up what you are already doing or giving you more resources.
A lot of talents in both our trees are mandatory picks where the effects are completely unnoticeable when playing. A lot of them have to do with increased crit chance or crit damage, which fit with Marksmanship's general theme, yet have effects so small that they are boring, only serving to reduce the value of cool talents like
В яблочко
and
Summon
. After all, if you already have a superb crit rate on all your abilities, you are going to be far less excited about an additional dosage of Crit during execute.
If Blizzard wants to give Marksmanship's single-target damage profile a unique identity that the other two specs cannot match, it seems that high execute damage is an obvious choice. Why not shift some of the damage out of some of the boring passives below, and into buffing the baseline damage of abilities like
Убийственный выстрел
which has many cool interactions in the tree just begging to be used to top DPS below 20%?
Острое зрение
- Two points invested for a subtle DPS difference that you will likely not notice.
Точное наведение
- Another two points of filler.
Учебный выстрел
- Another point of filler.
Other examples are somewhat obvious upon reading them. If a talent does nothing except increase the damage of one or multiple abilities by 5-10%, or even all abilities by a similar amount, then that is not a choice, it is just offloading some spec tuning into talents instead to fill out spots in the tree where there were no other ideas.
Ultimately, most specs have filler nodes and I do not deem it a major issue. It might even be an unreasonable expectation that every single node changes how you play, but given that a lot of these nodes are essentially just flat damage increases, it does not seem unreasonable to think that you could make such talents baseline, or bake their DPS increases into the overall tuning of the spec at least partially, and then introduce talents that subtly change aspects of the kit to fit different situations. There are no better examples than the
Крупнокалиберные патроны
vs
Малокалиберные патроны
choice. Both improve DPS by roughly the same but do it in totally different ways, and there will be a clear best choice, but this choice will change depending on the situation.
Marksmanship Hunter Dragonflight Trees for Raiding - How Strong Is it?
Here is an example raid build, focused on maximizing single-target DPS, while also picking up talents that have strong single-target and AoE potential at the same time such as
Беглый огонь
and
Разрывной выстрел
. These abilities will fill globals that are not
Прицельный выстрел
and
Убийственный выстрел
, hopefully minimizing the amount of
Steady Shot
s you are forced to do. We will also be abusing
Капкан
for Focus regen when paired with
Постановщик ловушек Эрнестуэя
, once again turning our weak
Steady Shot
s into powerful fillers that will sustain our Focus so that we can hit our
Прицельный выстрел
s and
Убийственный выстрел
s on cooldown.
When you are occasionally forced to cast
Steady Shot
, you will do so in pairs to trigger the one point of
Устойчивая концентрация
.
Быстрая стрельба
will fill in your Focus needs as well. There are a lot more buttons and things to manage than Marksmanship Hunters might be used to, but the goal is to get rid of
Steady Shot
s in favour of these abilities, not your
Прицельный выстрел
s and
Убийственный выстрел
s.
For our non-DPS options, the tree is focused on defensives over utility.
Near the middle of the tree, you can pretty easily swap between facets of your utility.
Устрашение
or
Связующий выстрел
can be swapped for
Усмиряющий выстрел
and
Перенаправление
, in any combination. If you need extra points, it is possible to sacrifice
Омолаживающий ветер
, though this is rarely recommended.
Conclusion
Overall, there is a lot to be happy about with the Marksmanship Trees and my criticisms above should not be taken as an overall negative review.
The good things about the tree are extremely good, while the bad things are just unfortunate as it feels like they could easily be better.
Hopefully, Blizzard will make some of the same realizations and improve the bad parts without touching the central parts that are good.
