TSM Addon Changes for 8.3
Trade Skill Master has received an update in time for testing before 8.3 releases! The
TSM update blog post
covers the details as follows ...
The first update to TradeSkillMaster in 2020 will be a considerable adaptation to the upcoming Auction House changes planned in Patch 8.3. If you haven’t heard about the in-game AH overhaul, or would like a reminder of the details, head over to the Wowhead preview post here.
The TSM Team have been primarily focusing getting the addon ready for Patch 8.3 since it was announced and made available on the PTR back in October. The following changes and adjustments have been made in the TSM Addon in Retail WoW for Patch 8.3 (Classic is not affected by this update):
Shopping & Sniper
One of the main changes of the Auction House is that listings are no longer paginated. You will no longer see 50 listings per page, because the AH is just one page now. This means there is no longer a first and last page of listed items.
Because of this change, we have adapted the Buyout Sniper to scan the entire Auction House. Additionally we have decided to retire the Bid Sniper, since it is no longer possible to bid on ‘commodities’ or sort them by duration.
When buying ‘commodities’, an extra confirmation dialog will be shown to enter the quantity to be bought at the lowest price. TSM can only let you buy the lowest priced commodities as per the new underlying Auction House behaviour.
Auctioning
With the new ‘commodities’ system, the Stack Size is no longer important in an Auctioning Operation so it has been removed. The Post Cap will determine how many items you are posting now, which has a maximum quantity increased to 5,000 from 200. Having multiple Auctioning Operations assigned to a group isn’t as useful as it was prior to 8.3, but this functionality has not been removed from TSM – your commodities will be posted in one large stack, per Operation.
When you run a Cancel Scan, TSM will suggest that you cancel an Auction that has been undercut, or has been listed more recently than your own at the same price.
It is also no longer necessary to Undercut with the new ‘last-in-first-out’ system, so Auctioning Operations will have no Undercut set on creation and by default.
All Auctioning Operations will be automatically migrated to function in 8.3 with the previously mentioned conditions in mind:
– Existing Operations with a Post Cap and Stack Size will multiply (Post Cap * Stack Size) to create a new Post Cap value
– Existing Operations with fixed-amount Undercuts will be rounded to the nearest 1s, meaning the default 1c will become ‘0’
Mailing
Some other infrastructure changes that Blizzard introduced for Patch 8.3 has allowed the mailbox to operate more efficiently. TSM will be updated to leverage the new 100 item inbox (up from 50) and 15 second mailbox refresh (down from 60).
Preview
You can test out all of the new changes on the PTR by updating to TSM4 version 4.9, which is live now. You can grab it on Twitch or let your TSM Desktop Application automatically update for your convenience.
Should you encounter any issues, please drop by our Discord server and let us know!
This is fantastic news and a testament to the hard work that the TSM team put into keeping this essential gold making addon current and useful. Be sure to test it on the PTR and feedback any issues on the

Setting Goals
And so a New Year is upon us and many will be looking ahead and what their plans might be for the World of Warcraft. When it comes to goldmaking as well as anything else in life, having goals is incredibly important and useful. Goals focus the attention, they provide rewards along the way and give reason and meaning to everything we do. Even with a game where ultimately we all want to have fun and a positive experience, it can be easy to lose sight of this and goals are the key to that. I would add that having both long-term and short term goals helps focus that fun.
Many talk about the
S.M.A.R.T.
method of setting goals. In World of Warcraft gold making, I suggest the
F.U.R.B.O.L.G.
method!
F - Fun.
This is the golden rule. We are playing a game, the aim is to have fun. What do you enjoy in the game? Focus on that. Some will prefer to Farm, others will prefer Flipping, the choice is yours.
U - Understand your market.
As Khadgar says "Knowledge is power!". Learn as much as you can, read and watch and form your own tests and opinions. Try something out with a small sample, test the market. Try lots of different things.
R - Repeatable & Relevant.
Can you repeat your success? If so, double down on it and see how repeatable it is. Is it relevant? Are people still seeking the items or has that content moved on and been superseded?
B - Breadth and Diversity.
Multiply your markets and try many things. Farm many materials, craft many different items.
O - Organize / Order your time.
We only have a limited amount of time, so use it wisely. Staying organized and focused on what you want to achieve in any given play session. Are you restocking, relisting? Doing Dailies? Which ones and Why? Being organized helps focus.
L - Long term goal.
What is your long-term goal? Why are you doing this? The answers here drive what you do day to day. They are all steps towards a larger goal.
G - Gold!
Well, this is what it's all about. What will you do with your gold? How much do you need? Are you aiming for a a sub or a brutosaur or buying everything on the Blizzard Store? Also when do you need it by?
How to make stupid amounts of gold
u/Aziyax1337 has written a great
guide on how to make stupid amounts gold
over on the Woweconomy Reddit. Their write-up goes through the process of building first one profession and then expanding into more and more as time goes on. It's a great example of scaling up and shows what can work on a high pop realm as well as med pop. In this case, by focusing on a high pop raiding server and feeding their unending desire for consumables was a great way to double down on a fast moving market.
Hey guys I wanted to write a guide on how I make my gold currently (This only really works like it did for me on high/full pop servers) it will probably work on smaller servers but won't be met with the same level of success I've had. Since the announcement of the bronti boi's extinction coming soon I decided to do the one thing I've never done in world of warcraft. Gold making. I have done everything from getting gladiator to hitting records for mythic plus clear times/key difficilties. I had no idea really where to start. I decided to focus on the profession I had. I had alchemy with a couple of the rank 3s setup but I did have to go out and find a couple of them. I did a quick search of my AH and did the math. It looked like none of the flasks/pots were profitable in the least. I did some research and learned I needed my tools of the trade. This taught me a valuable lesson. Most people do not like doing stuff for free, so most people do not do stuff for free. If the prices are where they are at most of the time there is a reason. I just had to figure out how to do the things everyone else was doing to ensure I made profit. I picked up my tools of the trade and I was off to the races. Here is the process I use.
From there, they went a route of Alchemy -> Inscription -> Cooking -> Tailoring -> Enchanting -> Blacksmithing -> Leatherworking. Each one building on the success of the others.
They also have some great general goblin tips such as always looking for cheap materials and buying and stocking up, especially in trade chat. Once you have some starting gold, feeding into others and getting bargains becomes so much easier.
8.3 Preparation
Lon Measley
Has done a great rundown of what to expect in 8.3 and how to prepare. The video covers the new pets and transmogable items coming in 8.3 as well as the new crafted gear. He also covers the new Auction House changes and his thoughts on what to stock up on.
Case Study: Multiboxing
A lot of gold makers have moved into this aspect of game of late, I want to take a moment to look a bit deeper into this and shed some light on the art of multiboxing. Now I caveat this as someone who has never multiboxed (mainly down to the fact I can barely do a single rotation on one character without looking at my keyboard), it is something I am interested in and have talked to many multiboxers myself and seen it in action.
What is Multiboxing?
Multiboxing has been around since there have been MMOs, I remember people often dual-boxing and more in Everquest back in the day. Multiboxing is essentially running multiple accounts and characters at the same time. The upper limit of which is limited by your hardware and skill at being able to handle multiple characters. Software such as
ISBoxer
helps immensely in this case.
Is it Legal?
It absolutely is! This is not to be confused with botting, the characters are being controlled by a human and the inputs are being broadcast to every character at the same time. Botting is using automated methods to control characters and play the game without being present.
Blizzard
It's not a supported playstyle, but it doesn't violate any rules, either.
Unless they are 'botting', which multi-boxers actually seldom do given their investment, multi-boxing in itself is not in violation of any rules.
Why do it?
Apart from the challenge and interest in setting something up, the main reasons for multiboxing are to do with scaling of time. Particularly in the case of goldmaking, where time is money the rewards are high. How does this work? As a simplified example, let's say you spend and hour flying around collecting herbs and ore and get 100 items on one character. Do the same thing with 5 at the same time and you get 500 items. Do it with 40 spread over several realms and you get 4,000 items!
There is way more to it than this, imagine crafting bracers or scrapping over several characters in less time. Farming materials in 2x4 farms where you are every farmer? The whole affair scales so much more once you go beyond into 16, 24 and upwards.
What about costs?
For every account, you need to earn enough gold to pay for its subscription. Usually once you are at the point of considering multiboxing, you can already earn enough to pay for your own account. Once at this stage, it will be a matter of scaling up as you go. Once you are past the threshold for each character's sub, ALL profit goes to you so more accounts means more profit.
Won't you saturate the market?
This is possible with larger numbers, but multiboxers will be careful to diversify and spread over several realms. Some professions shuffles like Tailoring/Enchanting require HUGE amounts of materials, one character would spend an eterinty farming them compared to the rate they get eaten up. It's all a question of supply and demand.
Want to know more?
There are plenty of resources out there if this intrigues you and you would like to give it a go.
