, our attention starts to focus agead as to what gold making opportunities this might bring.

I haven’t experienced an expansion launch as of SL, so forgive me if this is obvious. Ive noticed that a lot of mats have bottomed out, or are in the process of doing so. I make decent gold by flipping, sniping, and resetting, but I have not crafted a single SL item as of yet. I want to not only continue my usual methods, but also include crafting so that I can control my markets more effectively. At what stage in the patch cycle would be the most opportune time to throw some gold at every profession in order to boost the level and legendary ranks?
I’ve learned from this patch that if you have the gold then it is better to throw it around early on to establish a foothold. This would also apply to many who only have one or two professions going and wanted to expand their repertoire on the low in anticipation of 9.1 patch.

Mats are usually cheapest 3-4 weeks before a patch drops. Expect prices to rise the last week or two before a patch drops, then even higher the day of.
This also brought up some interesting discussion over how to prepare for an upcoming patch and looking out for potential markets..
Buy the gossip, sell the news. If you invest a lot of gold in mats, sell them on peak, rather than following community predictions. I remember there was a huge spike in Anchor Weed (flask bottleneck) price between TEP and Visions of Nzoth. Everybody was so hyped up about stockpiling, that the prices were the highest on the week before the patch and the market immidiately crashed on release. Lesson learned - sell when it profits you, not when everybody predicts, because the more people predict, the lesser the profit. I’ve managed to earn half a million gold that week, just by flipping.
The best time to make gold is day one of an expansion/patch. For a patch, and you're a gambler, camp the Wowhead website to wait for data on the new patch to see if current mats are used in new profession items are used again so you can buy them cheap is a thing.
You're hoping they don't change their minds and adjust or remove current mats from new items, which they have done in the past.
And then further into this goes speculation as to what will happen with Legendary Crafting, we really don't know yet and many have invested millions here it will be interesting to see which direction it heads..
Nobody is really answering your question about legendary crafting and the answer to that is we really don't know what changes there will be. We expect there to be an increase of ilvl, but don't HOW it will happen until this info is available on the PTR (and even then it could change before release). For example, here are a few possibilities:
adds additional ranks 5 and 6 (with 7 and 8 in 9.2)
magically increase the ilvl for all legendary items by +20 (very unlikely)
requires players wanting to upgrade to use some currency to grind (could be new or something like soul ash)
completely new recipes and everyone needs to start over
Most goblins here in this subreddit and on wowhead expect #1 or #4 to happen... but my personal opinion is that it will be #3.
While #1 would be the best possible option for goblins, it would be incredibly expensive for players to purchase... much more than they are right now.
Not only does it leave the legendary professions essentially alone (no additional items to craft/manage), it requires players to spend more time grinding on a currency if they want that +20 ilvl bump (or whatever it is). It is also possible that the upgrade item could also be crafted like WoD gear, but I consider that less likely than grinding a new currency. The currency was exactly the method that Blizzard used during Legion to upgrade Legendary item ilvls and that is another reason why I believe that will be the method this time around as well.
On a related note I also believe that the Leatherworking legendary item recipes will be adjusted to make them more equal with the other professions for player cost. Blizzard didn't want to do that mid patch because it would make a lot of players angry who invested early. Now that the market has calmed down and sales are slower, adjusting the recipes will not cause quite as much of an impact as they would have earlier.
So the legendary market RIGHT now is a bit risky to jump in if you aren't already established. If the recipes are changed or replaced, the materials might even be completely different and it could be risky to stockpile. In most cases we should have advanced notice through the PTR in at least the direction that Blizzard is going to go.
In regards to other items, herbs and ores are going to drop quite a bit in price once people are able to start flying. I doubt new raw resources (herbs/ores) will be added in 9.1 other than new currencies to grind... but I do expect something new in 9.2+.
There should also be new recipes added as well... especially looking forward to Inscription Glyphs and some epic quality gear and weapon recipes (200 ilvl catchup gear mostly). I do not expect new potion recipes as Alchemy is already at level 175 and the current potions can carry us through the next raid tier with no problems... but I expect "Greater" versions of potions to come in 9.2.
This is the time to keep a close eye on the news, make some educated guesses, maybe invest in a market or two. Overall, the quicker you can spot opportunities and react, the quicker you'll make money!

Making Gold for Fun!
Oftentimes, we can get a little hyper focused on the optimums of making gold and this topic serves as a reminder how important it is to have fun.

But does anyone here make gold just for the fun of it? For me, I farm gold because I love looking up new farming spots, trying out new techniques, seeing what sells and doesn't. I've done tmog runs, flipped fish, mats, pets, farmed mounts, holiday items, 2x4s, you name it, I've probably tried it, and usually all concurrently just to see what makes the most money. I don't have TSM, I just use auctioneer for the tooltip and cancel scan, I have no interest in the longboi or hitting gold cap, and I usually end up giving away about half of what I make anyway.
Is there anyone else in the sub who just makes gold as a fun side hobby? And what do you like to do with your gold?
I've always made gold for fun, even way back before tokens were thing.
It's a game, the whole point is to enjoy it. If you're having fun then who cares if others think you're "playing it wrong"?
Gold making is just another way to enjoy the game. I like to raid and collect things. Gold makes both of those easy. I could farm old instances forever and never get the mount I want, or wait until it appears on my servers BMAH and pay 200-500k for a 1% drop mount. The decision for me is easy on this one as each of those 1% runs might take 20-30 minutes if your alt is not waiting outside instance. I can make way more than 500k in 50 hours of AHing, most of which is automated with TSM and done while watching TV.
Edit. On the raiding aspect. I paid for most of the consumables and all legendary blanks for my guild of friends in Castle Nathria. Being able to efficiently make gold means friends can enjoy the game too. Rank 4 legendary blanks were brutal to buy for casual folks. I would rather do a dungeon with friends then for them to tell me "I need to farm right now to buy my legendary". When you reach a certain level of gold wealth, the game becomes pretty fun and less work.

I do, making gold is legit why I play the game as I don't raid or pvp. Farming is fun and so is exploring markets and learning the economy. Do have the ah mount but that's probably my only expense over 50k.
I sit on my gold like a grumpy dragon. Occasionally I buy stuff for friends and at Xmas I farmed a few grumpus mounts to sell and converted that gold to bnet balance to buy my husband COD and that jerk hasn't even downloaded it yet lol.
As you can see from some of the responses, we all have different things we find fun and ways of making gold making fun. There is no rule you have to be hard core to be considered a gold maker and what you find enjoyable is entirely up to you.

I've had a few questions lately about some of the things that I thought were common knowledge, but when I've thought about it I've taken for granted in TSM, so I decided to create a video about them.
These are some of the things that we probably all use on a daily basis, but some of the things that are hidden/you don't discover until you read up about them.
I hope it helps a few people out.
There are many little nuances about TSM that long-term users often forget like these. My person favourites are using /tsm get and /tsm put as well as using Shift to move items UP a group to the parent. What are your TSM tips?
Boon of the Bloodhunter
Getting hold of
Blood of Sargeras
has been difficult since the level squish.

I’m sure many know by now the issue surrounding the
Boon of the Bloodhunter
enchant. The enchant is still able to proc if your character is XP locked at 45, in legion chromie time, and the shoulders containing the enchant are of the legion expansion. Anything beyond these parameters result in no Bloodhunter quarry drops. With all the parameters met it appears as though the drop rate is still lower compared to pre SL rates.
I have not seen any dev notes regarding this and it has been apparent since SL pre patch. Do we know if this is a bug, or an intended stealth nerf? If it is intentional then it would further strengthen the theory of SL being a deflationary period. If it is not intentional then let’s open up a discussion to see how to best utilize the enchant for maximum blood production amid these additional parameters.
It's been frustrating being able to get hold of reasonable quantities of Blood of Sargeras which is why there was a price spike for
back in December as it requires 50 Bloods per craft!
