This whole system they are adding in is a god damn gameplay mechanic addition and for player choice... If u wanna do more dps use the corruption gear and take the risk along with it , if u dont wanna use the gear no one is forcing u to just cleanse the piece and go on with your day, everyone is complaining about "what if this happens during this because of the gear" well who gives a rats ass about that it was your choice to use the corrupted gear for the benefits it gave you and you knew the effects what using it were in the first place don't complain about a decision u made. Like I don't understand the logic of people they complained about gear titan forging which made gear they had before from the same difficulty and same content useless and forced them to grind over and over now that's gone. People complain that there aren't enough creative effects which change up game play that you could chose from they added it yet u complain because the gear has negative effects as a risk for u wearing it because the positive effects would be broken if there was no risk. Like people have to stop finding about *!@# to complain about. They even give u a choice to either keep it corrupted or to cleanse it if high risk high reward isn't your play style.
The whole system they are adding isn't a game play mechanic. Log into the PTR and test it yourself. Sub 40 corruption the mechanics don't matter. The slow can be dispelled and the corruption ring is a joke for damage when players will be sitting at 400k+ health. Sure you can boil down some complaints to be "this hinders my raiding experience" or "it's the piece I wanted but not the stats so I have to cleanse it." I would suggest crunching the numbers and testing things on the PTR. For example, suppose I am looking for only pieces with %haste what are my odds? Now compare the odds of getting a titanforge with and without a socket. This leads into my next paragraph which is a small rant that I apologize for. I beg of you and others to look at it from my point of view, and this point is from a dps main so it is slightly skewed and I again apologize. Dps have been using the Benthic boots (3% crit dmg) for all of 8.2. I think a few specs don't use it like BM hunters. So, this new system is adding Corrupted gear which can roll to 5 Corruption and have 5% Crit dmg. Let us just assume tier one pieces, i.e. 5-10 corruption. At minimum, before calculating what the cloak can reduce and running new essence minors, you can have seven of these pieces equipped before the third negative effect roles in. At worst, and again before reductions, you can have three equipped before the third negative effect. We can now even delver further into how this will impact classes. What happens when it comes out that X amount of crit dmg pieces are beyond BiS at the 460 ilvl over the same piece with a different trait at 475? We will be right back at a titanforging issue but with vastly worst odds. Let us speak honestly. Did titanforging stink? Yes of course it did it will always feel terrible that you are in raid not doing as well as you could be because Jimmy over there has a 455 Leviathan's Lure while you are stuck with your 435. It wasn't a perfect system and there were easier ways to go about fixing it as a whole. However, don't think for a minute that refarming raids and doing mythic dungeons is simply because of the mentality "well it can titanforge." There are a plethora of other reasons to refarm or keep grinding all going from extra residuum, higher .io, better parses, etc. People will hammer down on titanforging for an excuse because it's the easiest one. Also, if we really wanted to talk down about titanforging why don't we first look at the rework to proc based trinkets and Benthic gear which "forces" these "reclears." You take away the scaling and the rework and titanforged gear, that is not socketed, is minuscule. Which actually leads to any real problem with titanforging, i.e. sockets. That's all anyone cares about. You can get 455's to drop left and right. It doesn't have a socket? Well basically free expolsum. TLDR: Titanforging, both with and without sockets, has its problems, but the new system may fix the "I need to reclear multiple modes" or it might just stay the same because everyone is trying to get that perfect roll of lowest corruption since the math wizards simmed it all out.
