if you are unsure about an SSD i'll put it simply, after getting it i got to dalaran with dalaran hearthstone in 20 seconds, in that time it had loaded me, the players and when i mounted i could see myself and my mount and didn't have to count the time to the portal
How do people still game on platers? it's 2020, SSDs are so cheap. there is a 240gb ssd on newegg right now for 27 dollars. I'm happy Blizz is making this a req so it can take a lot of people out of the dark ages.
USB 3.0 would only slightly bottleneck the SSD and still be a noticeable improvement over an HDD
I understand the point of this post, to convince HDD holdouts to upgrade. I'd still really like to see a comparison of HDD SSD and NVMe.
I just added an SSD to my PC. I installed windows and wow on it and if I say that my PC is 5 times faster is an understatement.
I'm happily part of the club that only uses m.2's installed directly on the motherboard. Not only does it give you the best possible speeds, but significantly simplifies cable management. It was an expensive luxury when I first started doing it years ago, but with the way prices are now, I consider it an essential part of any gaming PC. (Gaming is, after all, a hobby, and hobbies cost money, and time is money, friend.)Even if you can't afford a blazing fast 2TB NVMe m.2, you can pick up a 1TB SATA SSD for under $90, or a 512GB for under $50. And if you've got $15/mo to drop on a monthly sub, you should have $50-$90 in discretionary income to make a one-time investment to upgrade your PC. If not, you need to log out of WoW and re-think your life.
People freaking out over SSD/HDDUgh
who doesn't have an SSD at this point though for real? that's like still using a flip phone.
I have WoW on my HDD and tbh the loading screen isn't the issue for me, its the fact that after the long loading screen the game is unplayable for a couple of minutes since the assets take too long to load, characters appear all black until they load correctly, or even stuff on my screen like action bars or quest text take time to load. It's really annoying
I have beta access and it takes me around 40 secs or less to load screens on SL (i have a ryzen 3000 with 16gigs ram and a 4gig video card) If u can afford an ssd do it, but if u have a fairly new computer (1/2 years old) u ll prolly be fine
