There's a fair chance this is trying to minimize impact from currency instability in case of a no-deal Brexit on the 31st.
"As part of our regular process, we conduct reviews on the available services in all currencies"Aud, Canada and now UK price hike, we know very well this is just greed, especailly after those "record year profits" and firings of 800 employees and then firings in EU and Australia offices.
Not enough money? Just remove the cheaper, longer payment options. Those yachts aren't going to buy themselves.
Now who's going to be next ?
You are still able to purchase 30 days on a regular subscription model. You just can't buy flat gametime (non-renewing) for anything other than 60 days now. My question then is why? What purpose does this serve other than hopefully snaking money out of people forgetting to cancel their subscription? You can still get 30 days and cancel instantly which is the same price for the same effect as the flat game time, it just takes more clicks. Seems like a needless at best, malicious at worst change to me."As part of our regular process, we conduct reviews on the available services in all currencies. Based on this ..." Based on... What? They don't elaborate at all, they literally provide no other information here other than "because we said so". I'd like to hear the reasoning behind the change personally.
emmmm why ? i can't think of 1 reason to justify this other than hey you can only gift your friends 60days minimum now
You can't gift anymore as well. They've removed the option on the game time page. It only lets you purchase for yourself which is simply mind-boggling ...
Not suprising considering Blizzard are doing everything in their power to plug the gap when people unsub because the game is bad, so having people have to have a longer sub by default would mean they already paid for game time when the game is bad so it doesn't look as bad to their investors. The far bigger question is why isn't WoW free to play with a sub premium option yet? Way bigger opportunities for expansion and revenue this way but Blizzard wouldn't be Blizzard if they weren't terrified of change.
As a continental European, this is the first I even hear about purchasing an amount of non-subscription game time other than two months - in the online shop, even. edit: ok, found it the option for one-time gametime purchases as well, had to search for "game time"But as already mentioned here, you can get a subscription and immediately cancel it, making it effectively a one-time purchase as well. So, with just a little bit more effort, UK now has more options (1, 2, 3, 6 months) than the rest of Europe, without having to get a Gametime Card from an external store. In Germany, we call that Jammern auf hohem Niveau. Or to use an English term: a First World Problem.
For what reason? Is there any logical statement to justify what is the actual problem? What's wrong having alternative subscription time like other mmos out there? It doesn't make any sense at all...!
Well somehow i went to check this i get everything with GBP and i can still Buy the 30 day option, as its showing me i can aquire it with euros i mainly use PayPal and that don't allow subs
As someone else has mentioned, this is because of Brexit fears. Britain is leaving the European Union and most of the details are not worked out. The British pound might tank. It is a safe move. They didn't raise the price, they are just protecting themselves. If Brexit goes smooth expect them to roll back out the longer subs. Remember that they just bribed us to take the 6-month deal and get free wings. They like the longer subs, just not if your money isn't any good. This isn't greed, it's fear.
Rather bad to remove the monthly sub, it removes all flexibility. I can't imagine me ever signing up for more than a month to check out the game after I've been away or a second account. Goes for any subscription game, not just WoW.They better not bring that plan to the rest of Europe.
This is almost certainly due to the shift towards legislation based on 'principles', and having game time purchasable online only for cheaper than the price in store would be criticised by the OFT's rules towards treating customers fairly, and especially with the recent government push towards favouring brick and mortar stores I'm sure there's more pressure on anything that causes stores to seem worse than the online equivalent. The vague language doesn't help, but having dealt with these regulation principles for a few years - there is no clarity of language that helps when the whole thing is bull^&*!. The regulators come up with principles, you have to interpret the principles yourself and then if they don't agree with your interpretation you get fined. And they're &*!@ at communicating about whether your proposed solutions and interpretations are valid. They're being told to make the options available in stores and online the same, but in the current situation it's not realistic to set up manufacture of 1, 3, and 6 month cards to match the online options. They could change the price of the gametime so the £ per day is constant, but that would mean that there is a price difference between the game time and recurring subscription, which also breaches regulatory principles by pressuring consumers into recurring subscriptions through financial benefits. They could change the price of the recurring subscription for UK customers, but that would mean there's a discount given for other countries but not for the UK, and that would piss off both the players and the regulators even more even if it's not technically in breach of any of the principles. So their option is to change pricing globally to remove the discounts for longer subscriptions, to risk being in breach of UK regulatory principles, or to remove any options to purchase game time in amounts that match recurring subscription lengths and match the prices charged in brick+mortar stores. And when they make the post announcing it, they can either try and explain all of this bull^&*! - which makes the regulators suspicious that they're 'not making the principles part of their company culture', or they cop out and just say 'after a review, we decided to make this change'.
u wot m8?
Do tokens still allow exchanging for 30 days with this? Or its counted separately?
