My hand happens to be too big for mah keyboard.Great write though, I had never thought of this :P
Never even considered it. I'd have to print off a list of what I have bound to each key, put it on the wall and turn my head to read it whenever I need to fight until I have it memorised. That's gonna be a lot of wipes for me to get it down and to break myself of the habit of where they used to be and hitting those keys instead. After so many years of using the keyboard to properly type, I have issues with having my hands all over it "in the wrong place" as it were. Gonna take a while to break that so I can use hotkeys in future because I won't improve without making better use of the keyboard. I tend to play left hand on keyboard, right hand on mouse until encountering mobs, then I mouse as needed. Tab only works if the mob is actually in front of me and I may need to dot something that's snuck up behind me while concentrating on another mob and don't have time to turn around and target it. Easily enough to mouse over and click, dot and go back to original target. Tried using the keyboard movements buttons but I don't get on with them at all, too much of a pain for me and I spend more time trying to get through doorways, etc by using the keyboard to move. Did this for a couple of days and decided mouse is simply quicker for me, although I use the down arrow button from time to time for backing up.I know it should make it easier in the end but it does seem like a lot of memorising to do. I have a hard enough time remembering to hit enter every time before I type rather than after and that's caused a few problems as I open every window and hop about like crazy before I stop and open the chat window. Having said all that, (sorry if it made you fall asleep) really like the OP and the link that someone posted for remapping the keyboard. If I can't have my fingers comfortably all over the keyboard, imagine what removing an actual key would do to me. *shudders* The horror! Thanks for the brilliant information, it will be very helpful.

Being a touch typist doesn't mean you're at a disadvantage. Most games are built around using the WADS system simply because it has been done for years, but in today's world more and more people are learning to type and type somewhat properly in terms of finger placement. That said, anyone who uses a keyboard as much as a gamer should be able to use it with relative ease.So games like WoW are awesome because it lets you remap the entire keyboard, which is great for us touch typists who can't stand taking our fingers off the homerow. It allows us to game in the dark right from the get-go -- we know all the key locations, so we only need to memorize the actual functions associated with the key.The trick then becomes to place familiar or commonly used functions on common, easy-to-press keys. This goes a step further by tailoring the functions to suit your play style. For example, you mentioned using the keyboard and turning around -- I would say remove the turn keys altogether and replace them with strafing (side-stepping) keys. Then, since you're so proficient with using the mouse for movement, use the mouse to change the camera angle and stay moving constantly. This will greatly enhance your PVP experience, too.For example, pressing both Mouse 1 and Mouse 2 will cause you to walk/run forward opening up a finger for something else on the keyboard.
For all the people who want to try this, but can't because of the Windows key, try Winkey assassin or other programs :O
A very fine style indeed!I haven't used CTRL + # for much more than some long-lasting buffs that rarely have to be used on run, but with this I see my fingerpower rising!
Cool idea, cept it kinda doesn't work on laptops :P flat keys and all.
