WoW Down to 8.3 Million Subscribers

Today at 4:30 p.m. EST, Activision Blizzard’s management hosted a conference call and Webcast to discuss the company’s results for the quarter ended March 31, 2013 and management’s outlook for the remainder of the calendar year.
In today's press release and call, it states that WoW is down to 8.3 million subscribers, down 1.3 million from the
last Activision Blizzard earnings call
, in which it was revealed that World of Warcraft lost its initial burst of subscribers from Mists of Pandaria and came down to 9.6 million.
During the conference call, they revealed subscribers declined most in the East and expect further volatility since it's the middle of an expansion. Blizzard is looking into ways to make the process of returning to WoW smoother for players as a response to the declining subscriptions.
Quarter 1 was also busy for Blizzard--they announced Diablo III coming to consoles, Hearthstone was revealed at PAX East, and Heart of the Swarm launched in March.
Last year WoW lost
a lot of subscribers
and was at 9.1 million right before WoW's expansion came out:
