Battle.net Real ID Friends
Blizzard just announced yet another one of the features the new and improved Battle.net will have. Just earlier today they said that Battle.net will have Facebook integration, and now this.
http://us.battle.net/realid/index.html
Adding your
Real ID
to your Battle.net account will allow you and your friends (who have also entered their IDs and have agreed to be friends with you) to access a number of unique features - real names for friends, cross-game chat, rich presence (additional information about what your friends are doing/playing), broadcasts (short messages to all your friends), and see-all-characters.

Battle.net Facebook Integration
This morning Blizzard release a press release that is rather interesting. The new Battle.net, which will be released with the upcoming release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, will feature
Facebook integration
.
http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/company/press/pressreleases.html?100505
This is not especially surprising—clearly the functionality is intended to make it easy to connect and add friends through Facebook to your Battle.net friends list. According to the press release, this should be popping up on the beta test client in the near future.

April Features Update!
We had so much good stuff in April that we decided to do a
new features recap
a little early—but we've been hard at work since then as well, so I still wanted to do our normal monthly feature recap here. Come check out some of the stuff we've been working on!
We've added a "
Creates
" tab to item pages.
The
Filter these results
link on search pages is now a little more obvious.
You can now directly click where you want to go in the
heirloom slider

Our
quest pages
now feature links to critical items, zones and NPCs!
The "Google" option in the Share menu on the
blog
now points to Google Buzz/Reader, rather than Google Bookmarks.
You can now filter for

We've removed the minimum character limit in forum posts.
There's now a link to the

page in the More menu.
We've changed the tab order on pages like

before
what it teaches you.

Well
alayton
and
TheOnyx
have been working on this particular enhancement for a little while now, and one feature discussion stood out. As we join our heroes, alayton has just completed an especially confusing change request from TheOnyx:
alayton: I HOPE YOURE HAPPY THEONYX
alayton: JERK
TheOnyx: you can't tell me that this functionality isn't awesome for quests like this
TheOnyx: we're making this game Easy Mode
TheOnyx: one enhancement at a time
Miyari: you're gonna love my maps
alayton: im just kidding ;p
TheOnyx: you're gonna be in a great mood all day because you're gonna be grinding your troubles away with Wowhead
Miyari: stop having boring leveling, stop having a boring WoW
TheOnyx: you know you hate doing quests
TheOnyx: that's why you have no quests in your quest log
TheOnyx: watch this

Dalaran Children's Week Quests Issues
As you may already have noticed, if you have completed the Dalaran
Children's Week
quests that were released last year,
you currently cannot complete them again this year.
An update posted by Bornakk and further clarified by Bashiok states that at this time there is no plan to fix this issue with the quest in time for this Children's Week, and everyone who completed the quest last year will have to wait until the event rolls around again.
This is rather upsetting, I was hoping to complete the Dalaran collection by getting my

We are aware of the issue that is currently affecting the Children’s Week quest line in Dalaran which does not allow players who have completed the quest line last year to take part in it again this year. We do not currently have a fix planned to address this issue at this point in time.
To clarify, this issue won'

An Informal Poll
So I have a few things that have been wondering lately, and I'd like to do a poll. I've noticed that a surprising number of our users seem to hang around the site even though they don't actually
play
WoW anymore. Are you one of those people?
I'd like to get answers to these questions. A simple "yes" or "no" is enough.
Do you have an active World of Warcraft account?
If yes:
Do you use the Launcher?
Do you regularly visit the official World of Warcraft site?

Screenshot of the Day Now Featuring Cataclysm
Blizzard have just posted via their Twitter feed at

There's no word on how long they'll be teasing us with these great screenshots of what's in store, but I hope it's at least until the Cataclysm Beta begins and we can start taking some awesome screenshots of our own!
Starting today, our Screenshot of the Day section at worldofwarcraft.com will feature unique #WoW #Cataclysm images!

Cataclysm Preview: The Echo Isles
Blizzard has released a pretty awesome of preview of the
new
Echo Isles
(my favorite part of
Cataclysm
).
The new Troll starting area will be for levels 1-5, and you will initially tasked with protecting the local raptors and their hatchlings from the sorcery of a nearby sea witch, slaying beasts that prey on our fellow tribe members and assaulting the naga who have overrun part of the isle.
Also, it is during the
pre-launch
event for Cataclysm that we will have a first hand chance to help in the reclaiming of the area for the trolls new starting zone!

Icecrown Citadel Raid Buff Increased to 15%
It's been a busy week in the World of Warcraft! With this latest raid reset, the
Цитадель Ледяной Короны
-specific raid-wide buff has had its effect increased again!
Песнь войны Адского Крика
and
Сила Ринна
will now increase damage, healing, absorption effects and health by
15%
.
You may remember that the buff was last increased to 10% at the end of last month, up from the 5% it provided when first launched at the beginning of March. Seems our
speculation
was correct, and this latest increase to the buff's effects was applied exactly four weeks later. I guess we can now assume we'll see the buff reach a staggering
20%
on May 25th,
25%
on June 22nd, and
30%
on July 20th.
This buff should definitely help out players trying to down some of the more demanding hard modes in Icecrown Citadel. Personally, I don't think that a lot of Icecrown Citadel's encounters were scaled properly for their intended difficulty level to begin with (ie. 10-man modes being downed without 25-man gear), so hopefully this helps even out the playing ground a bit more. Remember, you still have

X-53 Touring Rocket Available Today
You may recall that Blizzard announced some changes to the Recruit-a-Friend
Стремительная жевра
mount reward a little while ago. If you had an unclaimed Zhevra, the announcement said, or if you decided to recruit a friend in the near future, you would have the normal Zhevra reward changed to a spectacular
Прогулочная ракета X-53
!
Well, the big day is today. As of today, April 27, 2010 (possibly after the maintenance), if you recruit a friend or if you have Zhevras waiting to be assigned to one of you characters, you will start getting the X-53's!
Here is the short post by Zarhym:
Time is running out for those who wish to claim their Zhevra, as the launch of the X-53 Touring Rocket is now scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, April 27! If you’ve fulfilled all of the Recruit-A-Friend requirements necessary to claim a mount now but choose not to claim the Zhevra, you will be able to claim the X-53 Touring Rocket instead once it launches. Sounds like they’re firing it up for a final test run now....

Cataclysm PvE Badge and PvP Point Changes
Blizzard just posted changes to the badge system in
Cataclysm
... they are going to become Hero and Valor points! Basically the PvP point system being applied to PvE raiding.
Hero Points
will be earned from most dungeons (much like
Эмблема триумфа
) and
Valor Points
will be from high-tier raids (like
Эмблема льда
).
While there will be a maximum cap of Valor Points you can earn each week I personally think this could be one of the better changes to come to the badge/emblem/point system since the introduction of them in The Burning Crusade. So what does everyone think of the changes?
On the PvP side,
Conquest Points
will replace Arena Points as the complement to Honor Points. Personal rating requirements will also be removed from almost all items, including weapons.
You can read all the details in the original blue post, available after the break.

Cataclysm Raid Progression Refinements
Update:
Some clarifications have been added to the bottom of the post.
Another blue post from the blue world of blue Blizzardness descends from the skies - this time it's about how raid progression is going to work in
Cataclysm
.
10- and 25-man raids will share the same lockout.
10- and 25-man raids will share the same loot.
Heroic loot will be, like in Icecrown, just a buffed up version of the Normal loot.
The raid leader will be able to decide between 10-man and 25-man (possibly on a boss-to-boss basis), much like you can now choose between Normal and Heroic mode for a raid.
Since 25-man raids will drop the exact same items as 10-man, to promote people actually going to 25-man raiding, Blizzard is making 10-man encounters drop less loot per player (actual items, badges, gold...). In short, if you can get 25 people, you will get more out of the raid than if you were to go with 10.
Heroic mode for the bosses will be unlocked simply defeating a specific boss as few as (probably) 1-2 times. Limited attempts will likely go away completely, except for rare bosses (e.g. Algal

A Tour of the REAL World of Warcraft - Blizzard's Headquarters
It's midnight here, and I'm still awake, pretending I don't have to be up for gym (and work!) in a matter of hours. Thankfully, tonight my persistence in staying up late breeding Pokémon and browsing the Internet has paid off! I stumbled upon a post on one of my favorite sites of all-time,

these sort of things because I'm just like every other geeky kid out there who wants to grow up and design video games for a living. Being able to see where the magic happens AND being able to go, "Holy crap, they have a SLIDE in their food court!" just blows my mind.
(Please note, I don't think Blizzard actually has a slide in their food court, but I remember reading ages ago that

ZAM Interview with Richard Knaak
Cody Bye, the Director of Content of ZAM, has just interviewed
Richard Knaak
, one of the most famous writers of novels and short stories for not only World of Warcraft, but a number of other fictional worlds. Knaak's "Blizzard" bibliography includes novels like
Stormrage
(the latest official Warcraft novel on the market), 3 standalone Diablo novels,
The Sin War
series, Warcraft's
War of the Ancients
trilogy, as well as 2 standalone novels other than
Stormrage
. In addition to those, he has an impressive number of Dragonlance, Dragonrealm, Conan, individual novels... not to mention his short fiction pieces and the manga.
Sadly, this interview didn't quench my thirst for lore (could anything?), but it was an interesting read nonetheless. The interview is after the break!
