Q: Is Frost Scythe intended to be tuned as a replacement for Obliterate when Killing Machine is up even against a single target (...) ?

A: Frostscythe is intended to be higher priority than Obliterate with Killing Machine, and lower priority than Obliterate without Killing Machine, at any reasonable amount of Mastery.

After some testing, I've determined that, if rune of razor ice is applied to your main hand weapon, and you use frost scythe, every enemy hit by frost scythe gets a stack of razor ice.

This means that you can effectively maintain 5 stacks of razor ice on all aoe targets through careful use of frostscythe for the 10% bonus frost damage on aoe targets.

It should also be noted that this causes razor ice to deal 10% weapon damage as frost damage to all targets hit by frost scythe as well (not 10% more of frost scythes damage, but the 10% of auto attack damage).

If rune of razor ice is instead on your off hand weapon, you do not get the 10% weapon damage or the stacks of razor ice debuff.

Which means that frost scythe benefits from the artifact trait bad to the bone (which boosts the damage from the razor ice rune forge)

Edit: A secondary observation relates to Avalanche: Frost scythe crits count as melee critical strikes where avalanche is concerned, so in a large target count, you are near guaranteed to get atleast 1 crit with every cast of frost scythe, meaning every swing of frost scythe in large aoe counts can proc avalanche (each proc deals damage to all targets nearby). Which benefits stacking pilar of frost with Remorseless winter and frost scythe spam for burst aoe.

Currently it's my most favorable ability for frost DK since the prepatch. Looking forward to boost it with mastery and crit stats to replace the Obliterate with it as soon.

By the way, my recent finding is secondary stats were lined out, this means multipliers are constant for different stat rates. However, they are different and may be so for different classes. Accordingly, the most profitable for death knights in all specs are mastery and haste. You need to get 73 points to mastery and 100 points to haste to get 1 percent stat boost.

The other finding is it's damage scales based on the main hand weapon damage, so it profits twice as much from two-hand weapon than one-hand, unless it's damage is greater. Currently the only replacement with greater power is the artifact Frostreaper. Although, using two-hand weapon you won't be able to use the Obliterate or Frost Strike, however, you still can spend your runic power on the Death Strike or Breath of Sindragosa.

Does anyone know the spell id of the actual ability, not the id of the talent?

Been going crazy. It's not anywhere. Normally there are two separate entries, one for the talent and one for the ability, which shows their unique spell ids.

Help?

14.98% of Attack power = 345 dmg, maybe you can kill a frog with it
